This course is provided by Wintrac. Wintrac provides one stop shopping for all your IT training needs. Wintrac’s course catalog of over two thousand courses includes courses on Unix training, Linux training, Solaris training, AIX training, HP-UX training and OpenVMS training

Solaris Training Overview

This course provides participants with a look at the new / changed functionality found in the Solaris 10 Update 7 (05/09 release) Operating System (Solaris OS / Solaris OE). This course is taught for the following platforms: Solaris Sparc and Solaris x86/x64.

Systems: Solaris 10 05/09 UPD 7, SPARC or x86/x64 hardware platforms.

Solaris Training Prerequisites

It is assumed that the participant has previous experience on a Solaris 8 or 9 system, preferably in a systems administrator role. Familiarlty with both command line and CDE access to management tools is desirable, but is not mandatory. Some programming experience (shell, awk, PERL, C) is helpful, but not required.

Solaris Training Course duration

This course requires four (4) days, approximately 70% lecture/hands-on, and 30 % lab exercises. A fully functioning Solaris 10 server will be used for hands-on activities and lab time exercises.

Solaris Training Course Objectives

On completion of this course, a systems adminstrator should be able to upgrade an existing Solaris system to version 10, or install a new version of Solaris 10; to understand and integrate the changes in the startup mechanisms; create and use zones where appropriate; use enhanced security features; use new file systems features and types; and view many other architectural and management features that are part of Solaris 10. The overall emphasis is to introduce the many new and changed features from a practical administrative point of view.

DTrace/kstat scripts will be shown/executed as relevant to each module/topic.
