Overview:
This class gives students an insight into data modeling activities that need to be performed before building any database. The concepts and terminology are covered and reinforced by the use of an Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD).
Audience:
This course is designed for business and technical experts who need to obtain a basic insight of how to build a data model.
Prerequisites
None. The Overview of Database Concepts course is helpful, but is not required.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:
- Understand what a database management system is and what it does.
- Use data modeling terminology and apply correct data modeling concepts.
- Prepare data requirements.
- Document business views of data, and combine multiple business views using an Entity Relationship Diagram into a conceptual data model.
- Build a logical data model from a conceptual data model using normalization through third normal form.
- Map the logical data model to a relational database model.
