Networking Training Overview
This course is designed to give a student a jump start into the world of IPv6. The class takes a student who already knows IPv4, and methodically illustrates what is different in IPv6. The student will be taken through all the major difference in IPv6, as well as how these differences cause for a more efficient Internet. All while highlighting the similarities between IPv6 and IPv4 to tie new concepts to old ones.
The class starts with an overview of the new IPv6 address architecture, which leads straight into Subneting in IPv6. Following that, some time is spent looking at each of the communication schemes: Unicast, Multicast, Anycast. Lastly, the class finishes with a description of each of the tenants of Neighbor Discovery Protocol (NDP).
By the end of this class, the student will be able to:
- Recognize and Describe the architecture of an IPv6 address
- Subnet larger IPv6 networks into smaller IPv6 network
- Understand the different types of Unicast addresses (Link Local, Global Unicast, Unique-Local)
- Understand how Multicast is expanded and improved by IPv6
- Know the reserved Multicast addresses for All Nodes and All Routers on the local Subnet
- Understand the significance of the Solicited Node Multicast address
- Describe the tenants of Neighbor Discovery Protocol (NDP)
- Describe Stateless Auto Address Configuration (SLAAC)
- Describe Duplicate Address Detection (DAD)
- Describe Address Resolution in IPv6 and how it differs from ARP in IPv4
- Know the different message types that encompass NDP
