Microsoft Windows Vista: Level 2
Overview

This course is the second and last in the series of Microsoft® Windows Vista™ courses. This course will provide you with skills that will help you manage some of the advanced tasks available in Windows Vista. In this course, you will familiarize yourself with advanced customization techniques and work with applications and programs in Windows Vista. In addition to this, you will also work with Internet Explorer 7.0, manage network communications and data, and enhance system performance.

Course Objectives

You will work with Microsoft® Windows Vista™ to perform advanced tasks.

Prerequisites

To ensure your success, we recommend you first take the following course or have equivalent knowledge: Microsoft® Windows Vista™: Level 1.

Target Student

This course is designed for any knowledgeable worker or business professional with entry-level Windows Vista skills who needs to use more advanced Windows Vista networking, customization, and file-management features in the business environment.

Hardware Requirements

For this course, you will need one computer running Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition or higher to serve as a classroom domain controller. This computer should meet the following hardware requirements:

  • A PC with a Pentium IV 800 MHz CPU or higher.
  • A minimum of 2 GB of RAM.
  • A 40 GB hard disk or larger.
  • A 1024 x 768 resolution or higher video adapter and monitor.
  • A DVD-ROM drive, local or network accessible.
  • A network adapter and cabling connecting each classroom computer.
  • A keyboard and a mouse or other input device.

The following are the hardware requirements for the instructor computer:

  • A PC with a Pentium IV 800 MHz CPU or higher.
  • A minimum of 512 MB of RAM or higher.
  • A generic monitor (1024x768)
  • A 40 GB hard disk or larger.
  • A 128 MB graphics processor that supports DirectX 9.0.
  • Support for audio output.
  • A DVD-ROM drive.
  • A network adaptor.
  • A high-speed Internet connection.
  • A USB 2.0 Thumb Drive with a minimum capacity of 1 GB. (If available, supply the students with one also.)
  • A display system to project the instructor’s computer screen.

This course requires a laptop computer for the instructor.

  • A laptop computer with Pentium IV 800 MHz or higher.
  • A minimum of 512 MB of RAM or higher.
  • A 40 GB hard disk or larger.
  • A DVD-ROM drive.
  • Support for audio output.
  • A high-speed Internet connection.
  • A projector display system to project the instructor’s computer screen.

This course requires one desktop computer for each student.

  • A PC with a Pentium IV 800 MHz CPU or higher.
  • A minimum of 512 MB of RAM or higher.
  • A generic monitor (1024x768)
  • A 40 GB hard disk or larger.
  • A 128 MB graphics processor that supports DirectX 9.0.
  • Support for audio output.
  • A DVD-ROM drive.
  • A network adapter.
  • A high-speed Internet connection.
Platform Requirements
  • Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Business Edition.
Software Requirements
  • Microsoft® Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Business Edition
  • Microsoft® Office 2003® or later.


Performance-Based Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • enhance system performance using technologies available in Windows Vista.
