Business Skills Training Overview

Effective communication between team members is essential for the successful completion of any project. A Microsoft Enterprise Project Management solution provides the framework for electronically creating and managing projects. In this course, you will use Microsoft® Office Project 2007 to access project information located on a server, as well as to report progress on assigned project tasks.

Prerequisites

Students enrolling in this class should have knowledge of a Windows operating system and a web browser. Before taking this course, the student should complete the following courses: Project Management Fundamentals: Parts 1 and 2 (online self-paced courses), or have equivalent knowledge. Knowledge of Microsoft Office 2007 applications would be helpful. The following courses, or equivalent knowledge, would be helpful but are not required: Project Management Fundamentals (online instructor-led course) and Harvard Manage Mentor: Project Management (online self-paced course).


Delivery Method:

Instructor led, group-paced, classroom-delivery learning model with structured hands-on activities


Target Student;

This course is designed for individuals who will need to interact with the Project Server environment to update project progress, view project and resource information, and manage tasks and their issues and risks.


Hardware Requirements

You will need two computers: one to act as the domain controller running Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition, and another to act as the Project Server running Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition, SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition, and Project Server 2007. You will need one computer for each student, to act as a client machine running Microsoft Office Project Professional 2007 and Microsoft Office 2007 applications. All computers must have the following minimum system requirements:

  • Intel® Pentium® IV 800 MHz CPU or higher
  • 512 MB RAM (for domain controller and client machines)
  • 1 GB RAM (for Project Server)
  • 10 GB available disk space
  • CD-ROM or DVD drive
  • VGA or higher video adapter and monitor
  • Internet access (required for downloading service pack and .NET Framework)

  • Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Business Edition (for student computers)

  • view task assignments using the My Tasks page, modify various view options, and print task information.
  • enter task progress, reject and delegate task assignments, create new task assignments, and self-assign existing project tasks.
  • work with status reports.
  • post and locate the risks, issues, and documents associated with a project.
  • view and analyze project status using enterprise tools.
