Microsoft Office Access 2007: Level 4 (Second Edition)
Overview

In previous levels, you were introduced to the various features of Microsoft® Office Access™ 2007 that dealt with local database management. However, effective database management calls for mastering the advanced administrative and collaborative features of Access. In this course, you will exchange data with other applications, automate business processes by using VBA code, and secure and share databases. Course Objectives

This course is designed for students who have a thorough understanding of the basic and advanced user features of the Microsoft® Office Access™ 2007 application, and are interested in learning introductory level administrator skill sets. The course is also for the student who may be working in a web-based environment and may need to adapt Access applications to the environment. Certification
This course is one of a series of courseware titles that addresses Microsoft Certified Applications Specialist (MCAS) skill sets. The MCAS program is for individuals who use Microsoft’s business desktop software and who seek recognition for their expertise with specific Microsoft products. Certification candidates must pass one or more proficiency exams in order to earn Microsoft Certified Applications Specialist certification. Performance-Based Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • share Access data with other applications.
  • use VBA to automate a business process.
  • create and modify a database switchboard, and set the startup options.
  • secure databases.
  • share databases using a SharePoint site.

  • Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
Hardware Requirements For this course, you will need one computer for the classroom to run Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition and Exchange Server 2007 that meets the following system requirements:
  • x64 architecture-based processor that supports Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T).
  • Or, x64 architecture-based computer with AMD 64-bit processor that supports AMD64 platform.
  • Minimum 2 GB of RAM is required. 2 GB of RAM per server, plus 5 megabytes (MB) of RAM per mailbox is recommended.
  • A 20 GB hard drive or larger.
  • DVD-ROM drive, local or network accessible.
  • 1024 x 768 resolution or higher video adapter and monitor.
  • Keyboard and mouse.
  • Paging file size should be equal to the amount of RAM on the server plus 10 MB.
For this course, you will need one computer for each student and one for the instructor. Each computer will need the following minimum hardware components:
  • A 1 GHz Pentium-class processor or faster.
  • 512 MB of RAM. Recommended 1024 MB of RAM.
  • A 20 GB hard disk or larger.
  • A CD-ROM drive.
  • A mouse or other pointing device.
  • 1024 x 768 resolution or higher video adapter and monitor.
  • Network cards and cabling for local network access.
  • Internet access (contact your local network administrator).
  • A projection system to display the instructor’s computer screen.
Software Requirements
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2, Standard x64 Edition.
  • SQL Server 2000 with Service Pack 4.
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint® Server 2007.
  • Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 for download information.
  • Windows PowerShell (for Exchange Management Shell).
  • Microsoft Management Console (MMC) 3.0.
  • On all Mailbox servers with a 64-bit processor, you must install the hotfixes such as Update for Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition (KB904639) and Update for Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition (KB918980). In addition, Exchange 2007 requires that you do not have the Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) service or the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service installed.
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.
  • Microsoft® Office Professional Edition 2007.
  • Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2.

For computers that have the Mailbox server role installed, you must also install some Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 components. Although the server roles that require these components have been separated from the Mailbox server role, the prerequisites have not yet been removed from the Mailbox server role. To install the Mailbox server role, the following IIS 6.0 components must be installed:

  • Network COM+ access
  • Internet Information Services
  • World Wide Web Service

For computers that have the Client Access server role installed, you must also install the following components:

  • World Wide Web Service
  • Remote procedure call (RPC) over Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) Proxy Windows networking component
  • ASP.NET version 2.0
