Course Objectives

You will create and edit basic Microsoft Office Excel 2010 worksheets and workbooks.

Prerequisites

To be successful in this course, you should be familiar with using personal computers and you should have used the mouse and keyboard. You should be comfortable in the Windows environment and be able to use Windows to manage information on the computer. Specifically, you should be able to launch and close programs; navigate to information stored on the computer; and manage files and folders. To ensure your success, we recommend you first take one of Element K's introductory Windows courses, such as either of the following, or have equivalent skills and knowledge:
  • Windows XP Professional: Level 1
  • Windows XP: Introduction
Target Student

This course is designed for students who desire to gain the necessary skills to create, edit, format, and print basic Microsoft Office Excel 2010 worksheets.

Hardware Requirements

For this course, you will need one computer for each student and one for the instructor. Each computer will need the following minimum hardware components:

  • 1 GHz Pentium-class processor or faster.
  • Minimum 256 MB of RAM. 512 MB of RAM is recommended.
  • 10 GB hard disk or larger. You should have at least 1 GB of free hard disk space available for the Office installation.
  • CD-ROM drive.
  • Keyboard and mouse or other pointing device.
  • 1024 x 768 resolution monitor is recommended.
  • Network cards and cabling for local network access.
  • Internet access (contact your local network administrator).
  • Printer (optional) or an installed printer driver.
  • Projection system to display the instructor’s computer screen.
Software Requirements

Each computer requires the following software:
  • Microsoft® Office Professional Plus 2010 Edition
  • Microsoft® Office Suite Service Pack 1
  • Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional with Service Pack 2
Performance-Based Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • create a basic worksheet by using Microsoft Excel 2010.
  • perform calculations in an Excel worksheet.
  • modify an Excel worksheet.
  • modify the appearance of data within a worksheet.
  • manage Excel workbooks.
  • print the content of an Excel worksheet.
