Microsoft Project 2002Level 2 is the second course in the Microsoft Project 2002 series. In Microsoft Project 2002 Level 1 , you used your project management skills to create a complete project plan. This course will build upon that knowledge, and give you the opportunity to work with a project plan once it has entered the project implementation phase.
Prerequisites
Students enrolling in this class should have:
- An understanding of project management concepts.
- Knowledge of a Windows operating system.
- Microsoft Project 2002Level 1 .
The following courses would be helpful, but are not required: Project Management Fundamentals Harvard Manage Mentor Project Management (online course) Project Management Fundamentals Part 1 and 2 (online course)
Knowledge of Microsoft Office XP applications would also be helpful.

Target Student;
This course is designed for a person who has an understanding of project management concepts, who is responsible for creating and modifying project plans, and who needs a tool to manage those project plans. It is also intended for a person who has a basic understanding of Microsoft Project 2002 and is preparing to pursue certification as a Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) for Microsoft Project 2002.
Objective:
You will exchange project plan data with other applications, update project plans, create custom reports, reuse project plan information, and collaborate on project plans with others.
Certification
Microsoft Project 2002: Level 2 is one of a series of courseware titles that addresses Microsoft Office Specialist (Office Specialist) skill sets. The Office Specialist program is for individuals who use Microsoft's business desktop software and who seek recognition for their expertise with specific Microsoft products. Certification candidates must pass one or more product proficiency exams in order to earn Office Specialist certification
Hardware Requirements
To use Microsoft Project Server 2002, you need the following hardware:
- PC with Pentium III 700 MHz or faster processor.
- 512 megabytes (MB) of RAM or more.
- 1 gigabyte (GB) of available hard-disk space or more.
- CD-ROM drive.
- Super VGA monitor with a display resolution of 1024x768 pixels.
- Microsoft Mouse, Microsoft IntelliMouse, or compatible pointing device.
- Additional items or services are required to use certain features: 14.4 Kbps or faster modem for Internet access and a multimedia computer to access sound and other multimedia effects.
To use Microsoft Project Professional 2002 on each student's machine, you need the following hardware:
- PC with Pentium II 500 MHz or faster processor.
- 128 MB of RAM or more.
- 1 GB of available hard-disk space or more.
- CD-ROM drive.
- Super VGA monitor with a display resolution of 1024x768 pixels.
- Microsoft Mouse, Microsoft IntelliMouse, or compatible pointing device.
- Additional items or services are required to use certain features and to facilitate teaching this class: 14.4 Kbps or faster modem for Internet access and a Multimedia computer to access sound and other multimedia effects. It is also strongly recommended that a projector of some kind be connected to the instructor's computer so that students can see what is happening when the instructor is keying.

Software Requirements
This course was written to take advantage of the Microsoft Desktop Engine (MSDE) engine that comes with Microsoft Project Server 2002. (The MSDE limits the number of users.) Consequently, using this setup, the class size is limited to one instructor and nine students. If the class has more than nine students, Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or later must be used rather than the MSDE. (See the “Server Installation” section of the Microsoft Project Server 2002 CD-ROM for the proper configuration settings.) Additional Active Directory, Microsoft Project Web Access, and Local user accounts for the extra students will also have to be created. Lastly, the additional students will need to be inserted as resources with Windows Account information to the Office Suite Training Manual.mpp datafile's Resource Sheet. For this course, required server software includes:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 1 or later.
- Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 or later.
- Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in for IIS.
- Microsoft Desktop Engine (MSDE) 2000 or later.
- Microsoft Project Server 2002.
- SharePoint Team Services (included with Microsoft Project Server).
- Internet Explorer 6.0 or later
- Additional items or services are required to use certain features: Some Internet functionality may require Internet access and payment of a separate fee to a service provider; local and/or long-distance telephone toll charges may apply.
Required student workstation software includes:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional with all available updates.
- A printer driver of your choice.
- Internet Explorer 6.0 or later.
- Microsoft Office XP Professional with Service Pack 1.
- Microsoft Project 2002 Professional.
