Lotus Domino R5 Mail Administration
Lotus Training Overview

During this course you configure traditional Notes mail as well as standards-based SMTP mail transfer and delivery. You set up the Notes client, a POP3 and IMAP4 Internet mail client, and a Web browser to send and receive mail.

This course stresses the role of directories, including the Domino Directory, Directory Assistance, and the Directory Catalog. It also covers the configuration of Domino to support LDAP requests.

This course also covers mail security for both Notes and Internet mail clients, including the use of X.509 certificates for digital signing and encryption.

This is an intensely practical course, offering significant hands-on experience with the Domino Server and Domino Administrator software.

Lotus Training Learning Objectives

In this course, you will learn how to:

  • configure Intranet and Internet mail routing using the NRPC and SMTP protocols
  • set up the Notes client to send and receive mail and set up an Internet mail client to send mail via SMTP and retrieve mail via POP3 or IMAP4 protocols
  • utilize the Domino Directory, Directory Assistance, and the Directory Catalog (server and mobile versions) for mail addressing as well as for mail transfer and delivery
  • configure the Domino Server to support name and address book lookups by Internet mail clients using LDAP
  • utilize Notes mail security features and serve as your own Internet Certificate Authority, create Server and client X.509 digital IDs, enable SSL, and digitally sign and encrypt Internet mail
  • support Notes calendar and scheduling, including inter-domain resource reservations
  • configure Notes mail to use a Shared Object Store
  • move Notes mail files using the Administration Process
  • monitor and troubleshoot mail transfer and delivery.
Lotus Training Audience

This course is part of a series of courses. Follow these paths to master all aspects of the Domino Server, Domino Administrator, and the administration of Lotus Notes and browser clients:

Courses later in the series assume that you have mastered the content of earlier courses.

This course is designed for LAN administrators who are responsible for supporting mail on Lotus Domino Servers, Notes

Clients, and Internet mail clients and who:

  • are proficient Notes R5 mail users
  • have installed and configured a Domino Server (R5)
  • have taken the Domino Administration Basics and Notes Client Administration courses or have the equivalent knowledge.
You will find the course especially rewarding if you have already installed a Domino Server and a handful of Notes Clients and have had some experience designing Notes databases.
