Macromedia Training Overview
Students will use advanced drawing and text formatting techniques to create a promotional poster, and will learn pre-press concepts as well as techniques for preparing artwork for Web display.
Target Student:
This course is designed for the student who has completed the FreeHand 9.0 Introduction and Intermediate courses, and who wants to learn advanced FreeHand techniques.
Prerequisites
Students enrolling in this course should first complete the FreeHand 9.0 Introduction and Intermediate courses, or have equivalent knowledge.

Benefits:
Students will learn to use FreeHand to work with several graphic formats. Students will learn to create perspective illustrations efficiently and accurately, and will learn to create patterns. Students will export illustration files for use on the Internet. Students will use advanced text manipulation techniques, and will learn pre-press concepts while creating color separations.
What's Next:
FreeHand 9 Introduction is the first course in this series, and is followed by FreeHand 9 Intermediate. This course, FreeHand 9 Advanced, is the final course in the series.
Hardware/Software Requirements
You will need
- A 120 MHz Intel Pentium processor or higher.
- Windows 95, 98, or NT 4 (with Service Pack 3).
- At least 64 MB of system RAM.
- At least 50 MB of hard disk space to install software, and an additional 5 MB for course data files.
- A color monitor capable of at least 800 x 600 resolution.
- A CD-ROM drive.
- Macromedia FreeHand 9.0.
- See your reference manual for hardware considerations that apply to your specific hardware setup.
- In addition, you will need a printer (PostScript recommended) if you want to print the various illustrations created in the course
Performance-Based Objectives
Lesson objectives help students become comfortable with the course, and also provide a means to evaluate learning. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Create and navigate through multiple page documents with different page sizes.
- Import and export vector and raster images to integrate FreeHand with other desktop publishing applications.
- Create Flash animations for display on the World Wide Web.
- Autotrace raster images to create editable line art from scans.
- Use typographic commands and shortcuts to integrate text professionally in your illustrations.
- "Pre-flight" documents to ensure smooth gradients and prevent printing problems.
- Perform trapping for color separated output.
- Create color separations, specifying ink settings and printer’s marks.
