Overview
Word processing is the use of computers to create, revise, and save documents for printing and future retrieval. This course is the first in a series of two Corel® WordPerfect® X4 courses. It will provide you with the basic concepts required to produce basic business documents.
Course Objectives
You will create and enhance standard business documents using WordPerfect X4.
Prerequisites
Users should have basic PC/Windows skills and knowledge; no word processing skills or knowledge are required.
Target Student
This course is intended for any business, government, law office, small business, or home office user of WordPerfect X4.
Hardware Requirements
- Personal computer with Pentium 166 MHz processor or equivalent.
- Minimum of 64 MB of RAM (128 MB recommended).
- 330 MB of free hard-disk space. Space requirement may vary
by configuration.
- Either a local CD-ROM drive or access to a networked CD-ROM
drive.
- A two-button mouse, an IntelliMouse, or compatible pointing
device.
- Super VGA, 16-bit color monitor supporting 800 x 600 or higher
resolution.
Platform Requirements
- Windows XP Professional. This course was written using the Windows
XP Professional operating system with SP1 installed. WordPerfect X4 will run
on Windows 2000 with SP3, Windows NT 4 with SP6a, Windows 98 SE or Windows
ME. However, using this course with other operating systems or configurations
may affect how the activities work.
Software Requirements
- A Custom Setup of WordPerfect Office X4. See the Class Setup
section for details.
- An installed printer driver. (Printers are not required; however,
each PC must have an installed printer driver to use Print Preview.)

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- describe the basic concepts of word processing in Corel®
WordPerfect® X4.
- identify the basic concepts of modifying a document in
Corel® WordPerfect® X4.
- format a document using the fonts and font styles available
in Corel® WordPerfect® X4.
- format the appearance of paragraphs of text using the paragraph
formatting available in Corel® WordPerfect® X4.
- organize information by using the tabs and tables available
in Corel® WordPerfect® X4.
- change the appearance of a document at the page level in
Corel® WordPerfect® X4.
- examine a document and check it for potential errors in
Corel® WordPerfect® X4.
- view a Corel® WordPerfect® X4 document in different
modes and view a print preview.
- work with other file formats in Corel® WordPerfect®
X4.
