Overview

Students will learn how to perform common word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database techniques using the StarOffice. Prerequisites

A working knowledge of Windows 98 and Microsoft Office applications.

Target Student
Students enrolling in this course should understand how to use Windows applications and have experience using the mouse. Students should also be familiar with Microsoft Office applications. Performance-Based Objectives

Lesson objectives help students become comfortable with the course, and also provide a means to evaluate learning. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Use the StarOffice interface, including the Explorer and the Beamer.
  • Edit and navigate in documents using StarWriter.
  • Enter formulas and charts using StarCalc.
  • Create a presentation that includes text, bulleted text, drawn objects, and transitional effects using StarImpress.
  • Create a database and related objects including tables, forms, reports, and queries using StarBase.
  • Understand the basics of other packages in the StarOffice suite: StarMath, StarDraw,
  • StarImpress, and StarSchedule.
  • Use the various AutoPilots to create templates, web pages, and import documents.

Hardware/software Requirements

An IBM-compatible PC with a 486 processor or higher, a minimum of 32 megabytes (MB) of random access memory (RAM), Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0, a minimum of 148 MB of available hard disk space for StarOffice software, and an additional 20 MB of hard disk space available during installation for temporary files.

See your reference manual for hardware considerations that apply to your specific hardware setup.

In addition, you will need printers if you want to print the documents, spreadsheets, and presentations created in the course.
