Overview

PowerPoint 2000: Introduction is a hands-on instruction book that will introduce you to the basics of effectively creating presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint.

Prerequisites

We designed PowerPoint 2000: Introduction for the student who is completely new to PowerPoint and needs to learn the basics about creating presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint. To ensure your success with this course, we recommend that you first take one of the following courses or have equivalent knowledge:
  • Windows 98: Introduction
  • Windows 98: Making the Transition
Target Student
Students enrolling in this course should understand the basic concepts involved in working with a personal computer (PC). For example, students should be familiar with terms such as computer memory, data files, and program files. Students should also be familiar with the components that make up the PC, including input, output, and storage devices. No prior knowledge of PowerPoint is assumed. Performance-Based Objectives
  • Open a presentation and view a slide show, explore the PowerPoint window, and examine different presentation views.
  • Create a title and bullet slide, create a slide in Outline view, modify slide text, and check spelling.
  • Experiment with drawing tools, work with text and drawn objects, and enhance drawn objects.
  • Create an organization chart, change organization chart options, create a graph, and edit a column chart.
  • Select a template, change text and bullets in the Slide Master, remove Slide Master objects, and add a footer.
  • Explore slide show options, add transitions and animation to a slide show, run a manual and an automatic slide show, and work with notes.
  • Use the AutoContent Wizard, and save a presentation for Internet viewing and delivery.
Certification
PowerPoint 2000: Introduction is one of a series of titles that addresses Microsoft Office Specialist (Office Specialist) skill sets. The Office Specialist program is for individuals who use Microsoft's business desktop software and who seek recognition for their expertise with specific Microsoft products. Certification candidates must pass one or more product proficiency exams in order to earn Office Specialist certification.

Hardware/Software Requirements

You will need:

  • A Pentium 75 PC with 16 MB of RAM. (We recommend a Pentium 133 or faster with 32 MB or more.)
  • 600 MB of free hard-disk space. For optimal performance, we recommend an additional 100 MB of free hard-disk space for user graphics and temporary image caches.
  • Either a local CD-ROM drive or access to a networked CD-ROM drive for installation purposes.
  • A 3.5"-disk drive.
  • A two-button mouse, an IntelliMouse, or compatible pointing device.
  • VGA or higher-resolution monitor; Super VGA recommended. (The EGA display adapter is not supported).
  • An installed printer driver. (Printers are not required; however, each PC must have an installed printer driver to use Print Preview.)
  • An Internet connection with access to the World Wide Web. The connection is necessary to complete some tasks and there are Web Tips, also, throughout the book. (Note: Internet access may require payment of a separate fee to a service provider.)
  • Microsoft Windows 95 (or later) operating system, Microsoft Windows NT Workstation operating system version 4.0 with Service Pack 3 (or later) installed. If you’re running Windows NT, make sure that you have at least 4 MB of free Registry space.
  • A custom installation of Microsoft Office 2000 Premium Edition—see the following section, Class Requirements, for additional instructions.
