Overview

Students will learn about features new to Notes 5.0.

Prerequisites

Notes 4.6: Database Features, Notes 4.6: Advanced Features, and Notes 4.6: Mail Features; Notes 4.5 Introduction and Notes 4.5 Advanced, or equivalent knowledge.

Target Student

Students enrolling in this course should understand basic Notes, mail, and Internet concepts.

Performance-Based Objectives

Lesson objectives help students become comfortable with the course, and also provide a means to evaluate learning. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify the components of the new Notes workstation environment, including creating and using bookmarks and bookmark folders.
  • Use the Highlighter while editing a document and create tabbed tables and tables with special effects.
  • Enable the automatic spell checking feature and add signatures to every outgoing email message and use the Notes Minder application to check for new mail while Notes is not running.
  • Use the new Calendar interface, use Owner Actions to check the Participant Status for a meeting, import holidays into your calendar, create and use Group Calendars, and use the new print options for printing Calendars.
  • Change the Home page and create new Welcome page styles, and use the new design window to create a private view.
  • Use search features to locate Notes users, Notes databases, Internet email addresses, and Web sites.
  • Use archive settings to create an archive database and an archive log database.

Hardware/software Requirements

An IBM-compatible PC with an 80486 processor or higher (Pentium processor is recommended), and 150 megabytes (MB) of hard disk space; a local area network (LAN) adapter that works with any network operating system that supports Notes; a minimum of 16 MB of Random Access Memory (RAM); direct access to the Internet; a VGA or SVGA video monitor; and a Windows-compatible mouse. Printers are not required, although you will need an installed printer driver.
