Notes 5.0 (R5): Mail Features

Overview

Students will learn how to use the basic mail features in Notes 5.0.

Prerequisites

Windows 95: Introduction, Windows 95: Making the Transition, Windows NT Workstation 4.0: Orientation, or equivalent knowledge.

Target Student

Students enrolling in this course should understand the basic concepts involved in working with a personal computer (PC). Students should also be familiar with Windows and with using a mouse.

What's next

Notes 5.0: Mail Features focuses on mail. Notes 5.0: Database Features focuses on database functions. Students can enroll in either Notes 5.0: Mail Features or Database Features as their introductory Notes 5.0 course. One class does not build on the other. Notes 5.0: Advanced Features is the next book in the series.

Performance-Based Objectives

Lesson objectives help students become comfortable with the course, and also provide a means to evaluate learning. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify the components of the Notes workstation environment and explore the mail database.
  • Create messages by using Address Books, explore mail delivery options, reply to and forward messages, and attach a file to a message.
  • Organize documents by creating folders, copying and moving documents to folders, and deleting folders, and create and use rules.
  • Use the Calendar to schedule time by setting Calendar preferences and by creating and editing Calendar entries.
  • Schedule meetings by creating and replying to meeting invitations.
  • Use Notes from a remote location by examining locations and copying and replicating the mail database.

Hardware/software Requirements

An IBM-compatible PC with an 80486 processor or higher, and 150 megabytes (MB) of shared disk space; a local area network (LAN) adapter that works with any network operating system that supports Notes; a minimum of 16 MB of random access memory (RAM); a VGA or SVGA video monitor; and a Windows-compatible mouse. Printers are not required, although you will need an installed printer driver.
