Hardware/Software Requirements

This course requires a GroupWise system with a NetWare 4.1x server with one domain and post office, and with Web server software installed. The only requirement is that the GroupWise Message Transfer Agent (MTA), running on a NetWare 5.x/6.x or Windows NT/2000 machine, be able to access the domain directory. It is strongly recommended that you go to the Novell GroupWise 6 Web site for the most current documentation. Based on that documentation, the requirements for the server you choose to install may be different than the following hardware minimums:

  • Pentium 200Mhz or faster processor
  • 3 gigabytes (GB) of hard-disk space
  • TCP/IP networking
  • 256 MB of RAM
  • NetWare 5.1x (enough client licences for students in the classroom)
  • GroupWise 6
  • Web server software
  • A PS/2 or serial mouse
  • A CD-ROM drive
  • IP address and domain names (an IP address, an IP address of a Domain Name Server, and the name of your domain)
  • The minimum requirements for client workstations are:

  • Pentium 200Mhz or faster processor
  • 128 MB of RAM or more
  • Windows 2000
  • NetWare Client for Windows NT/2000
  • Microsoft Word 2000 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or Corel WordPerfect 8 with Service Pack 7 and Netscape Communicator 4.5
  • 500 MB of free disk space after installation of all software except the GroupWise client (standard installation)
  • Access to the Internet
  • This course was developed and tested with the following configuration. Please note that additional details on the course setup are given in the Preparing For Class section:

  • Server

  • Pentium 800Mhz with a 10 GB hard drive and 256 MB of RAM
  • NetWare 5.1 with Support Pack 3
  • GroupWise 6
      • domain = GWDomain; post office = GWPO; default library = GWPO Library
      • client/server only access
      • Windows 2000 Novell ConsoleOne with GroupWise snap-in
  • NetWare Enterprise Web Server
  • GroupWise WebAccess and WebPublisher installed
  • GroupWise WebAccess page as Web server's default HTML page
  • Client workstations

  • Pentium 200Mhz or faster processor with 128MB of RAM and 1 GB or larger hard drive
  • Windows 2000
  • TCP/IP
  • Novell Client for Windows NT/2000 v. 4.81
  • Standard installation of the GroupWise 6, 32-bit Client with Internet Browser Mail Integration and GroupWise Tip Of The Day installed, with GroupWise Notify placed in the StartUp folder
  • Microsoft Word 2000 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or Corel WordPerfect 8 with Service Pack 7 and Netscape Communicator 4.5
  • It is possible that this course could be taught with different server configurations and client operating systems, but it is strongly recommended that you test the course well in advance to identify any variances before teaching a class.

  • This course can be taught with either Microsoft Word 2000 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or Corel WordPerfect 8 with Service Pack 7 and Netscape Communicator 4.5. The files on the data disk are provided in both Word and WordPerfect format so you can select the folder appropriate for your class.

  • Because students send messages to each other, there should be at least three users for this course to work as written; the instructor plus two students. It is assumed there will be no more than 16 students.
