Students will learn the basic skills necessary to begin using Access 2000. They will design and create databases, tables, queries, forms, and reports.
Benefits:
Students will learn how to create and use database objects, including tables, queries, forms, and reports.
Prerequisites:
Windows 95: Introduction; Windows 98: Introduction; or Windows 98: Making the Transition, or equivalent knowledge
Target Student:
Students enrolling in this course should understand the basic concepts involved in working with a personal computer (PC). For example, students should be familiar with terms such as computer memory, data files, and program files. Students should also be familiar with the components that make up the PC, including input, output, and storage devices. Students should also be fairly comfortable working in the Windows environment. No prior knowledge of databases or Access is assumed.
Performance-Based Objectives:
Lesson objectives help students become comfortable with the course, and also
provide a means to evaluate learning. Upon successful completion of this course,
students will be able to:
- Understand database concepts and terminology in Access 2000.
- Design and create tables.
- Enter and manipulate data in tables.
- Use Access queries to select and analyze information in a table.
- Create data forms for viewing and inputting data.
- Create reports that summarize and group data.
What's next:
Getting Started with Access 2000 is a pared down version of the first course in this series. Access 2000: Level 1, the first course in this series, teaches students in greater depth the features and capabilities of Access 2000.
Delivery Method:
Instructor-led, group-paced, classroom-delivery learning model with structured hands-on activities.
Hardware/software Requirements:
An 486-compatible or higher PC that meets the minimum hardware requirements for Windows 95 or later or Windows NT 4.0 or later (A Pentium 90 with 32 MB or better is recommended.); 500 MB of free hard-disk space (Windows NT only: At least 4 MB of available space in the Registry); either a local CD-ROM drive or access to a networked CD-ROM drive; a floppy-disk drive; a VGA or higher display adapter (the EGA display adapter is not supported); a two-button mouse or IntelliMouse. Printers are not required; however, each PC must have an installed printer driver in order to use Print Preview. Microsoft Windows 95 or later, or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3 (or later) installed. A full installation of Microsoft Office 2000 Premium Edition. (Note: This course has been developed using the Windows 98 platform.) See your reference manual for hardware considerations that apply to your specific hardware setup.
