Overview

Students will probably get the most out of this course if they want to learn the skills and concepts necessary to work with advanced features of Excel 2000. Students should have a basic knowledge of the concepts involved in using Excel 2000. For example, they should be familiar with data types (text and values), copying data, basic formulas and functions, and opening and saving files.

Prerequisites

To ensure students’ success with this course, we recommend that they first take the following Content courses or have equivalent knowledge:

  • Windows 95: Introduction, or
  • Windows 98: Introduction, or
  • Windows NT 4.0: Introduction
  • Excel 2000: Worksheets
Target Student

Students enrolling in this course should understand the basic concepts involved in using Excel 2000. For example, they should be familiar with data types (text and values), copying data, basic formulas and functions, and opening and saving files. Performance-Based Objectives

  • Customize toolbars and create styles and templates.
  • Create decision-making functions.
  • Analyze worksheet data by creating PivotTables.
  • Compare and contrast workbook files and file links.
  • Outline and consolidate worksheets and analyze worksheet data by using the Scenario Manager.
  • Display and protect worksheet data by locking cells.
  • Record and modify macros by using the Visual Basic Editor.
  • Create and work with interactive Web documents.

Hardware/software Requirements

You will need:

  • A 486-compatible PC that meets minimum hardware requirements for Windows 95 or later or Windows NT 4.0 or later. (A Pentium 90 with 32 megabytes (MB) of Random Access Memory (RAM) or better is recommended.)
  • 500 MB of free hard-disk space. (Windows NT only: At least 4 MB of available space in the Registry.)
  • Either a local CD-ROM drive or access to a networked CD-ROM drive for installation purposes.
  • A 3.5"-disk drive.
  • A two-button mouse or IntelliMouse.
  • A VGA or higher display adapter (the EGA display adapter is not supported).
  • An installed printer driver. (Printers are not required; however, each PC must have an installed printer driver to use Print Preview.)
  • Microsoft Windows 95 or later, or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 installed.
  • Microsoft Office 2000, including a custom installation for Excel 2000 (see the following section for additional instructions).
