Overview
Word processing is the use of computers to create, revise, and save documents for printing and future retrieval. Microsoft Word is a proven and powerful word processing application. This course is the first in a series of three Microsoft Word courses. It will provide you with the basic concepts required to produce common business documents as well as give you the opportunity to apply them.
Course Objectives
You will create basic documents using Microsoft Word.
Prerequisites
This course assumes that you are familiar with the benefits of using personal computers and that you have used a mouse and keyboard. You should be comfortable in the Windows environment and able to use Windows to manage information on your computer. Specifically, you should be able to navigate to information stored on the computer, manage files and folders, and work with multiple windows at one time. This course also assumes that you have limited experience with a word processing program or that you are switching to Microsoft Word from a different word processing program. To ensure your success, we also recommend you first take the following course

This course is designed for persons interested in learning the basic features of Microsoft Word for creating and revising basic business documents. It is also intended for persons desiring to prepare to be certified a Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) in Microsoft Word.

Certification candidates must pass one or more product proficiency exams in order to earn Office Specialist certification
Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3): Word 2002: Level 1 is one of four courseware titles that address the Module 2 (Key Applications) objectives of the Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3) program. Modules 1 (Computing Fundamentals) and 3 (Living Online) objectives are addressed in other courseware titles. Certification candidates must pass three exams--one associated with each module--in order to earn IC3 certification.

Platform Requirements
- Windows 2000 Professional. This book was written using the Windows 2000 Professional operating system. Using this book with other operating systems may affect how the activities work. Note: The manufacturer states that Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage will work with Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows ME, and Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0. Office XP Professional with FrontPage will not run on the Microsoft Windows 3.x, Microsoft Windows NT 3.5x, or Microsoft Windows 95 operating systems.
Hardware Requirements
- Pentium 133 MHz or higher processor required for all operating
systems.
- 64 MB of RAM recommended minimum for Windows 2000 Professional;
in addition, you should have 8 MB of RAM for each application running simultaneously.
(Note: Memory requirements may differ for other operating systems).
- 600 MB of free hard disk space. (Under Windows 2000, at least
4 MB of space must be available in the registry.)
- Either a local CD-ROM drive or access to a networked CD-ROM
driver for installation purposes.
- A floppy-disk drive.
- A two-button mouse, an IntelliMouse, or compatible pointing
device.
- VGA or higher resolution monitor; Super VGA recommended.
- An installed
printer driver.
- An Internet connection is required in order to complete some
tasks for this class; therefore, you will need a 9600 baud modem or higher.
