Getting Started With Word 97 (Windows 95)

Students will learn the basic skills necessary to begin using Word 97.

Prerequisites

Windows 95: Introduction or equivalent knowledge

Target Student
Students enrolling in this course should understand the basic concepts involved in working with a personal computer (PC). No prior knowledge of Word is assumed.

Getting Started with Word 97 (Windows 95) is the pared-down version of the first course in the Word 97 series. Word 97: Level 1 (Windows 95), the first full day course in this series, teaches students more about how to use basic skills in Word 97. Word 97: Level 2 (Windows 95), the second course in this series, teaches students how to use intermediate features of Word 97. Students who want to learn advanced features can take Word 97: Advanced (Windows 95). .

Lesson objectives help students become comfortable with the course, and also provide a means to evaluate learning. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • Understand the basic concepts of word processing in Word 97; open and edit a document.
  • Navigate through a multiple-page document; select, copy, and move text in a document.
  • Change the appearance of text by using character and paragraph formatting.
  • Work with tab stops and tables in a document.
  • Add and delete page breaks; check a document for potential errors by using
  • Words proofing tools.

Hardware Requirements/software required to run this course


You will need 8 megabytes (MB) of Random Access Memory (RAM) if you are using Word 97. See your reference manual for hardware considerations that apply to your specific hardware setup.

In addition, you will need printers if you want to print the documents created in the course.

This course was developed using the Microsoft Office version of Word 97. If you use the standalone version of Word 97, you might notice differences. This book was written using the Windows 95 platform; however, the manufacturers documentation states that it can also be used with Windows NT.
