Corel Training Description

In this course, you will learn to use several tools for masking parts of images, and will move, duplicate, and resize images. You will learn to use objects, and to apply object effects to create special effects, including lighting and texture effects. Additionally, you will use painting tools and merge modes to create shading effects, and will perform adjustments to contrast and color balance. You will save images in formats for print and Web use.

Corel Training Benefits:

After completing this course, students will be able to accurately mask areas within Corel PHOTO-PAINT 11 images for editing and compositing images. Students will learn to add type and apply effects to type and other image areas. Students will learn to prepare images for use in print materials, as well as to prepare images for use on the Web.

Corel Training Prerequisites

We designed the Corel PHOTO-PAINT 11 (Multi-Platform) course for the student who has little or no experience using Corel PHOTO-PAINT® 11, and who needs to learn the basic skills that are necessary in order to begin to use this program effectively.

Before taking this course, you should have a basic understanding of your computer’s operating system. For example, you should know how to launch an application, create and save files, and copy files from CDs and other media.


Delivery Method

This course is designed for instructor-led, group paced classroom-delivery, providing students with structured hands-on activities.

Target Student

This course is designed for students with little or no Corel PHOTO-PAINT 11 experience, who are working or desire to work in the graphic arts or desktop publishing fields.

Hardware /Software Requirements

This course can be run on either the Macintosh or the Windows operating system.

  • For Macintosh: A PowerMac G3 or higher.
  • For Macintosh: Mac OS 10.1.
  • For Macintosh: At least 128 MB RAM.
  • For Macintosh: At least 250 MB hard disk space to install software, and an additional 10 MB for the course data.
  • For Windows: A Pentium II, 200 MHz or greater processor.
  • For Windows: Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, Windows Me, or Windows XP.
  • For Windows: At least 64 MB of RAM, with 128 MB recommended (for Windows XP, 128 MB RAM required).
  • For Windows: At least 200 MB of free hard-disk space to install software, and an additional 10 MB for the course data.
  • A color monitor with 1024 x 768 screen resolution.
  • A mouse or compatible tracking device.
  • A CD-ROM drive.
  • Corel PHOTO-PAINT® 11.
Performance-Based Objectives
  • Navigate in the Corel PHOTO-PAINT 11 environment and identify the environment elements.
  • Select appropriate resolutions for different image and output types as well as resize and crop image areas.
  • Mask editable image areas based on shapes, freeform mouse dragging, and color contrast.
  • Create and manipulate multiple objects to composite images easily.
  • Apply blending and shading effects to create realistic composites.
  • Describe the characteristics of each of Corel PHOTO-PAINT 11's color modes.
  • Select colors using the Color palette, Color dialog box, and Eyedropper tool, as well as use painting tools to create artwork or to retouch photographs.
  • Add and format text within an image, and apply object effects.
  • Modify the brightness, contrast, color balance, hue, and saturation of images.
  • Save images in file formats for use with other applications and the Web.
