Adobe Training Overview
In this course, students will use Adobe PhotoShop to modify scanned photographs.
Adobe Training Prerequisites
Before taking this course, you should have a basic understanding of your computer’s operating system. For example, you should know how launch an application, create and save files, and copy files from CDs and other media.

Students will use advanced tools for selecting parts of images, and will move, duplicate, and resize images. Additionally, students will use painting tools to manipulate images, and will perform adjustments to contrast and color balance.
Target Student
We designed Adobe PhotoShop 5.5 Basic Skills for the student who has little or no experience using Adobe PhotoShop, and who needs to learn the basics skills that are necessary in order to begin to use this program effectively
Hardware/Software Requirements
- Pentium(r) or faster Intel(r) processor.
- Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0 or later.
- A hard disk with at least 150 MB of free space (125 MB for software installation, and 25 MB for course data files).
- At least 64 MB of random-access memory (RAM).
- A CD-ROM drive.
- A 256-color (8-bit) display adapter (24-bit color recommended)
- Adobe PhotoShop 5.5.
See your reference manual for hardware considerations that apply to your specific hardware setup.
In addition, you will need a printer (PostScript recommended) if you want to print the images created in the course.
Performance-Based Objectives
Lesson objectives help students become comfortable with the course, and also provide a means to evaluate learning. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Resize and crop image areas.
- Select appropriate resolutions for different image and output types.
- Select image areas using the Lasso, Marquee, and Magic Wand tools.
- Use alpha channels to create, save, and edit selection masks.
- Select colors using several color models and with the Eyedropper tool.
- Use PhotoShop’s painting tools to create artwork or to retouch photographs.
- Create and manipulate multiple layers to composite images easily.
- Modify the brightness, contrast, color balance, hue, and saturation of images.
- Save images in file formats for use with other applications.
