As a graphic designer, you are starting to familiarize yourself with image creation and editing using Photoshop. Understanding the different tools and features available in Adobe® Photoshop® CS2 will help you to maximize your creative potential. In this course, you’ll work with several tools and features to edit images using Adobe® Photoshop® CS2.
Adobe Training Objective
You will explore the Photoshop interface and use several tools for selecting parts of images, and will move, duplicate, and resize images. You will learn to use layers, and to apply layer effects and filters to create special effects. Additionally, you will use painting tools and blending modes to create shading effects, and will perform adjustments to contrast and color balance. Finally, you will save images in formats for print and web use.
Adobe Training Prerequisites
Before taking this course, students should be familiar with the basic functions of their computer's operating system such as creating folders, launching programs, and working with Macintosh. Students should also have basic Macintosh application skills, such as copying and pasting objects, formatting text, and saving files.

Hardware Requirements
- PowerPC® G3, G4, or G5 processor.
- At least 512 MB of RAM.
- At least 1GB of free hard-disk space to install software, and an additional 500 MB to run the course.
- A color monitor with 16-bit or greater video card; 24-bit color recommended.
- A mouse or compatible tracking device.
- 1024 x 768 or greater monitor resolution.
- A CD-ROM drive.
- A display system to project the instructor's computer screen.
Performance-Based Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- explore the Adobe Photoshop CS2 environment.
- adjust images to ensure that they have an appropriate balance between file size and print or display quality, and also crop images to remove unnecessary areas.
- use the different selection tools in Photoshop to select parts of images and also save selections for future use.
- create image composites and use several techniques in Photoshop for creating and manipulating layers, and for undoing steps.
- apply blending effects to composite images so that they appear more realistic.
- identify the various image mode characteristics and select the appropriate image mode for specific purposes.
- select colors and paint an image using the various color and painting tools in Photoshop. You will also duplicate parts of an image using the Clone Stamp tool.
- add text to an image, format it, and create special effects by applying filters.
- adjust an image's brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation.
- save completed images for printed applications and for the web, and also save the images as PDF documents.
