Students will learn how to build, format, and print a basic worksheet

Prerequisites

Windows 98: Introduction or equivalent knowledge

Target Student

Students enrolling in this course should have a basic understanding of personal computers and of Microsoft Windows 98. Performance-Based Objectives

Lesson objectives help students become comfortable with the course, and also provide a means to evaluate learning. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • * Realize the disadvantages of paper spreadsheets and be familiar with the basics of the 1-2-3 environment by examining a paper spreadsheet and starting the 1-2-3 program.
  • * Create and save a basic worksheet by entering text, values, and formulas; access different areas of a worksheet by using the keyboard and the mouse.
  • * Modify a worksheet by editing existing data; create formulas by using 1-2-3’s built-in @Functions; and use a number of techniques to access 1-2-3’s On-Line Help system.
  • * Insert rows into the worksheet and move data by using shortcut menus and the drag-and-drop technique.
  • * Copy data and quickly fill ranges with data by using shortcut menus and the SmartFill technique.
  • * Change the appearance of the worksheet by using the status bar and the InfoBox.
  • * Prepare a document for printing by using the Spell Check feature and a variety of printing options.
  • * Learn the basics of using three-dimensional workbooks, creating charts, and using SmartMasters.

Hardware/software Requirements

You will need 8 megabytes (MB) of Random Access Memory (RAM) if you are using 1-2-3 Millennium Edition (12 MB is recommended if you plan to run 1-2-3 while running other applications). You will need a maximum of 35 MB of hard disk space available for 1-2-3 Millennium Edition 9.5 after Windows 98 is installed. You will also need a typical installation of Windows 98 with 1-2-3 Millennium Edition 9.5.

See your reference manual for hardware considerations that apply to your specific hardware setup. In addition, you will need printers if you want to print the worksheets >created in the course.

Note: This book was written using the Windows 98 platform; however, the manufacturer’s documentation states that 1-2-3 Millennium Edition 9.5 can also run on Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0.
